Observation of Spouse AbuseWhat Happens to the Children?

The results of a study of the children of battered women indicate that intervention with these children, half of whom were themselves abused, should become a professional priority. The serious effects are influenced by the gender and age of the child. Children who both witness the spousal abuse and are victims of abuse appear more seriously affected than those who are only witnesses. Intervening in domestic violence shelters and in schools is recommended.
